In 1938, the predecessor of Sargoy Stein was found in order to ensure that movie theaters were complying with their licensing obligations. In the wake of the development of talking motion pictures and the creation of the movie studio system, motion picture studios began licensing their motion pictures to movie theaters around the United States. A century after this licensing arrangement went into effect, a similar modus operandi still exists.
Each movie is licensed with certain financial and other obligations. Sargoy Stein ensures that each studio is being paid the proper royalty and each theater meets its other contractual obligations. If there are issues of a theater underreporting its gross revenue to the motion picture studios or failing in other ways to meet its contractual obligations, Sargoy Stein reports such issues to our motion picture studio clients and aids in its resolution.
